Jim McCulloch - Top Ten albums
10. HARMONY GRASS - HIS IS US if the Beach Boys came from East Ham in London. Very much of its time (1969), but as good as any sunshine pop coming out of the states at that point.
09. JIM OROURKE - INSIGNIFICANCE if Bukowski wrote the lyrics for Bacharach and Lynyrd Skynyrd were his backing band, it would sound like this. The man can croon...
08. ANTONIO CARLOS JOBIM - STONE FLOWER hugely rich in melody and texture, the Brazilian god takes on the world through symphonic jazz. Plain beautiful.
07. MICHAEL HEAD -THE MAGICAL WORLD OF THE STRANDS England`s best songwriter of the last 25 years no problem. A genius with melody. Conjures magic out of the mundane.
06. FAIRPORT CONVENTION - UNHALFBRICKING from wistful timeless folk to Velvets-style work outs, and possibly the best album cover of all time. Or the worst.
05. ELVIS PRESLEY - THE SUN SESSIONS the 1st album I ever owned. These songs simply resonate down the years, and elvis sings like no-one before or since. The birth of rock`n`roll.
04. ORANGE JUICE - YOU CANT HIDE YOUR LOVE FOREVER enthusiasm, wit, urbanity and Roger Mcguinn's fringe. Four skinny young bucks from glasgow with spiky guitars and floppy hair take on the world. Sound familiar? Just perfect.
03. VAN MORRISON - VEEDON FLEECE this album comes with deep roots in soul, celtic folk and jazz. Totally unique and a world within a world. The man was untouchable at this point.
02. ELLA FITZGERALD AND LOUIS ARMSTRONG - PORGY AND BESS a match made in heaven. Stunning arrangements with two Gershwin interpreters at their absolute peak. Music that could only have been made by Americans.
01. RONNIE LANE - ANYMORE FOR ANYMORE ex-Small Faces/Faces bass player takes the campfire guitars and a large case of wine and has a lost weekend out in the country. Music for good time travellers.
bubbling under...

DR JOHN - GRIS GRIS
MINNIE RIPERTON - THE CHESS YEARS.
