INDEPENDENT AND FREE

Neon Tetra have teamed up with the Scottish Daily Record to produce a
compilation CD of Neon Tetra artists.

The eleven track CD titled: Independent and Free, is available  from all
Scottish ASDA stores via a voucher in this Saturdays Daily Record (10th
November) .

The compilation heralds a brand new deal with ASDA (Scotland) to
stock NeonTetra Artists.

The increasingly negative buying strategy of Virgin and similar music chains
had made it almost impossible to get stock of less well known artists in
front of viable customers.

36 ASDA stores are featuring our entire catalogue in custom display stands
at the competitive price of £5.00 each.

The campaign kicks off tomorrow (Friday 9th) night with a series of
adverts on STV primetime.

UPDATE:

DESPITE GETTING THE AMERICAN VISA AND BOOKING THE FLIGHTS, THE CAMELS DIDN'T MAKE THE GIG DUE TO LAST MINUTE, UNFORSEEN CIRCUMSTANCES.

A HUGE THANK YOU TO ALL WHO DONATED TO
THIS WORTHY CAUSE.

CALIFORNIA DREAMIN' BECOMES A REALITY FOR THE FAST CAMELS

To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Summer of Love and one of the most famous music festivals in history, a weekend concert and celebration is to be held on the original stage of the Monterey International Pop Festival on July 28 & 29 in California.  Unlike Woodstock, this will be the first time that a show has been staged to commemorate one of the best-loved pop musical events.  And Glasgow's own new psychedelic band, The Fast Camels have been invited by its organisers to be the only new band from the UK to share the main stage with performers from original festival in 1967:  Quicksilver Messenger Service, Big Brother & The Holding Company, Jefferson Starship (with Paul Kantner), plus Robby Krieger and Ray Manzarek of The Doors.

The Fast Camels impressive debut album, The Magic Optician, album is a treasure trove of memorable tracks and the band has used its love of classic psychedelia from the period to create a record which lovingly re-creates the vibe of original 60s psych albums like Love's "Forever Changes", Pink Floyd's "Pipers At The Gates of Dawn" and The Who's "Sell Out", whilst remaining relevant in 2007.

North American radio has taken the band to its heart, with college and underground stations regularly playing the album tracks even before its release in February. And it is largely due to this love affair that The Fast Camels will be finding themselves on the Californian coast next month.  A campaign started at the beginning of May by Breakfast Show presenter Angela Allen, fellow presenter Charmi O’Connor and station manager Andy Olson at Radio Free Phoenix to get the band on the bill at the festival had her listeners and Camels' fans bombarding the festival organisers with emails and phone calls to demand that they get invited to play.

Other radio stations that have been flying the flag for the album followed suit and as a result, Festival Director Andrew Hernandez took notice and decided to check out The Fast Camels:  "We all liked what we heard and think FC would be a good fit to the show!  They’ll be the only up and coming band that we’re putting on the main stage."

Now the band will make the leap from playing venues like King Tut's in Glasgow and The Cavern Club in Liverpool to performing in front of a crowd of thousands, many of whom were there to witness the first event in 1967.

"I can't believe that we're going to be playing in this company – it's incredible," says The Fast Camels singer Drew Sturgeon.  "Jefferson Airplane is one of our favourite bands of all time and we're just completely in awe to be sharing a stage with the founding members".

The only hurdle now that The Fast Camels face is finding the funding to make the trip over and cover the processing fees of work permits, etc, as they are unsigned after releasing their finished debut on Neon Tetra Records through a one album deal and are without a licensing deal in North America.  The organizers are giving them the opportunity of a lifetime, which comes in place of a fee.
Sadly, as this show is abroad and not specifically a music industry showcase gig, the band does NOT qualify for any financial grants from the Scottish Arts Council, Performing Rights Society Fund or the Prince’s Trust.  The only means of financing this venture for The Fast Camels is to rely on the kindness of strangers – through sponsorship and donations from the public, no matter how big or small.

“One of the most innovative and creative musicians working in the country right now”
Scotland on Sunday

“Sweet pop gems” - Sunday Mail    •    “A sparkling tunesmith” – Metro

“Simply beautiful tunes” – Music Magazine, Japan

“Songs to go quietly wild for” – Maverick Magazine

“A great new songwriting talent from Scotland” – Bob Harris, Radio 2

Without You
is a gorgeous slice of timeless pop from one of Scotland’s fastest-rising new songwriting talents. The song is taken from Ally Kerr’s critically acclaimed debut album Calling Out To You, first released on Japan’s Quince Records, and recently included in a credible Japanese music magazine’s top 20 albums ever to come out of Scotland sitting alongside Franz Ferdinand and Belle and Sebastian.

During his first-ever  headlining tour of Japan last summer, Ally received word that one of his songs was to feature as the theme tune to a major new Japanese animated TV series
mushishi (based on the comic book which sold millions across the country) - this new theme tune – The Sore Feet Song – is currently released in Japan as a CD single and Ally’s  fan-base in Asia is growing rapidly as a result. A major karaoke company have added this track to their catalogue and new converts in China, Japan and the USA have been eager to find out more.
