Ally Kerr "Land of the rising star" Japan gigs
THE childhood snap that adorns the sleeve of singer/songwriter Ally Kerr's debut disc features a dressing-up game instigated by his sister Alison. You may recognise her from her occasional byline photo in Scotland's only quality national daily broadsheet.
The image has wormed its way into the hearts of the Japanese, and in the land of the rising sun, they are also pretty keen on Kerr's music.
Consequently, Kerr and the guitarist from his band, Chris Leonard, are jetting off to the other side of the world on Sunday to play a clutch of headlining gigs for the fanbase that was onto his disc way before his homeland. Calling Out To You comes out here today on Neon Tetra records.

+++ Campbell Croons with Lanegan, Iha, Green Peppers +++
Former Belle & Sebastian principal Isobel Campbell (who guests on Green Peppers' Joni's Garden) is set to unveil two new albums in the coming months. Ballad of the Broken Seas is a collaboration with Mark Lanegan that Campbell describes as "in the style of Nancy Sinatra and Lee Hazlewood's albums from the '60s", the other album is the more folk-oriented Over the Wheat. Green Peppers' guitarist Jim McCulloch features extensively on both albums, the latter release also features Smashing Pumpkins/A Perfect Circle guitarist James Iha.

+++ Japanese mag puts Ally's album in top 25 +++
Music Magazine in Japan had a special feature on the Scottish music scene in the April 2005 edition. They chose their top 25 albums to come out of Scotland in the last 20 years and Calling Out To You by Ally Kerr was included alongside acts such as Orange Juice, Teenage Fanclub, Travis, Belle and Sebastian and Franz Ferdinand.
This is the English translation:

Sometimes, Japanese fan sites and listeners have the hottest information about Scottish guitar pop music. This is the case with Glaswegian singer-songwriter Ally Kerr whose debut album was first released in Japan by a small label, and fans recommended it mouth to mouth. Not too commercial, but simply beautiful tunes - a rare thing to be found in this music scene. Members of Teenage Fanclub recommended it too. Duncan Cameron and Duglas T. Stewart were involved in production.
Calling out to you will be released in May

+++ Joe Kennedy signs UK deal with Neon Tetra +++

We are delighted to welcome L.A. based singer/songwriterJoe Kennedy to Neon Tetra Records
Joe's album "Van Cortlandt Park" will be released late March 2005.
What does he sound like? Well we think it's Todd Rundgren meets the Beach Boys...a bit Paul Williams...the music reflects his L.A. background...incredibly sunny, a little melancholic but very tuneful...with melodies from heaven.
Joe has recently been touring as Macy Gray's guitarist/pianist and previously played in American rocker Pete Yorn's band...as well as performing on Pete Yorn's two albums.
Joe's debut album is a sun-drenched masterpiece.
Check out sample downloads on the bands page.
